Both patients and oncologists are always eagerly awaiting the results of studies on the use of immunotherapy for malignant tumors, as this gives rise to hope that sooner or later it will be possible to cure this serious disease. However, even though inhibitors of immune checkpoints have entered the standard of treatment for many tumors, resistance to them also develops, as well as to chemotherapy and targeted therapy. Moreover, a significant number of patients resistance may be primary, and there is still many oncological diseases generally not sensitive to immunotherapeutic approaches. This literature review presents data on the main currently known mechanisms of resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors and examines the real effectiveness of methods for overcoming this resistance.
